Astro was the last operator of this former USAAF Curtiss built in 1947. Other users were Flying Tigers, Zantop, Universal, Aviation Associates of Georgia, Channel Air Lift and Genavco. Last noted 2006 as an eyecatcher for a diner close to Manila airport (photographer not known)

At the time the aircraft had only recently been acquired by the CAF and the titles of a former operator, Ortner Air Service, can still just be discerned under the paint on the upper fuselage. Subsequently restored in USAAF markings and named "China Doll", it was for many years a common sight at US airshows, but in recent times it has been stored outside the premises of the CAF Southern California Wing at Camarillo Airport, CA. However, according to the Wing's Facebook page, it has now been moved inside and will be restored to static display condition.

Thirty-six C-46Ds were purchased from USA and 12 from the Republic of China Air Force (ROCAF) that included the C-46A and C-46D. All C-46As were converted to C-46D standard. They started operating in 1955 from Tachikawa and by the Miho Detachment, which evolved into the Air Transport Wing comprising of the 401st and 402nd Sqn. Three at Iruma were used for ECM. This ex-ROCAF aircraft at JASDF Hamamatsu Kohokan was flown by the Flight Check Group for navaid calibration till phased out on 11 March 1978.

Ex USAAF 44-78715. To N1671M in 1948, N67985 in 1950, B-920 in 1963 and back to N67985 in 1964. To the Colombian Air Force as FAC 931 in 1982 then to Dainco as HK-3079-X in 1984. To Trans Oriente as HK-3079 in March 1994 and then Programa Coinco as HK-3079G in July 1994. Crashed into a hillside near Villavicencio after a flight from Mitu in May 1995.

Rolando Canedo founded Lineas Aereas Canedo to fly charters in Bolivia, with this C-46 and restored C-117D. It is seen here stored at Cochabamba in 2013, after plans seemed to have paused.

Rebuilt 1976 as N8875 and leased to Air Haiti, NEBA CP-1616 1980. Skidded off runway Trinidad 5 December 1988 and damaged beyond repair, noted derelict 2008. Originally built as C-46A 42-107368 msn 27055. A complete rebuild in 1976 used major components from msn 22501 taking on this identity in 1976.

Used by Trans Continental Airlines from 1976 to 1982. To the Mexican Air Force as TEC-6049. I identified and photographed it on the dump at Mexico City in 1996. Scrapped in 2001.

Delivered to the USAAF as 44-78702 in 1945. Sold as N1825M in 1950 and used by a number of operators. Operated by Transcontinental Airlines from 1976 to 1983. Withdrawn from use in 1985 and scrapped.

This C-46A was originally built as USAAF C-46A 43-47330. It was transferred to the JASDF on 22 December 1959 and was withdrawn from use on 25 August 1976.
