This F-86A on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center of the National Air and Space Museum was assigned to the 4th Fighter Interceptor Group at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, in July 1949. It was shipped to Japan in December 1950 with other F-86s of the 4th Group, and flown in Korea. Most of its combat missions against Mig-15s were flown from Kimpo Air Base near Seoul. It is displayed in the pre-June 1952 markings of the 4th Fighter Wing, the first F-86 unit in Korea.

This is one of the exhibits at the Gifu Air Base Museum, photographed at the end of the annual base Open Day. Unfortunately this aircraft was situated outside the permitted access area with a large bush in front making any shot impossible. I had to settle for only the tail

Although the nose of the Sabre Dog, containing an AN/APG-36 all-weather radar fitted in the black radome, is the most obvious difference compared to earlier F-86 variants there were other improvements including a longer and wider fuselage, a clamshell canopy and an enlarged vertical stab surface. In the end the F-86D had only 25% commonality with earlier Sabres. This example is on display at the super March Field Air Museum.

This 'Haymaker' F-86 is on display at the National Museum for the USAF. From March 1954 onwards it served with the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron deployed at Komaki AB, Nagoya for secret reconnaisance overflights of the Soviet Union, China and North Korea. These aircraft were unarmed but note the fuselage bulge in order to accommodate the film magazines for the cameras.

Rescued from a scrap yard in 1970, Ben Hall rebuilt former USAF 48-178 using parts from another F-86A and a lot of man-hours. Flying in the UK as G-SABR for over twenty years, the oldest jet still flying returned to the USA in 2014. It was finally able to make an appearance at the EAA Air Adventure in 2017.
