Stored here since at least 1994, initially still in full Pacific National Airways colours. Still there at the time of upload, 26 years later. This very early DC-3 was first delivered in 1939 as a DST-217A, and converted to DC-3A (Wright Cyclone engines replaced with Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasps) in the late 1940s. It is the second DC-3 to carry the registration N139D (regd as such in 1975), the first being c/n 2027.

This Dakota belonged to the 355/1 STM based at Thessaloniki-Sédes. At that time, the base was equipped with metal plates taxi and runway. The noise coming off from the main gear when rolling over the metal plates during take-off, overwhelmed the beautiful engine noise. That came to an abrupt end when the aircraft started to fly, the one could enjoy the engine sounds. The once USAAF Skytrain, (43-49479) and RAF KK156 was transferred to Greece in September 1949. It was eventually withdrawn from service early 2005. KK156 was last seen at Tanagra air base in 2013.

The Dak was transferred to Greece in October 1949 under MDAP through Van Nuys AMC (CA). This Dakota belonged to the 355/1 STM based at Thessaloniki-Sédes. At that time, the base was equipped with metal plates taxi and runway. The once USAAF Dakotoa, (43-49479) was delivered to the RAF as KK156 in September 1949 and later on transferred to Greece. It was eventually withdrawn from service early 2005. KK156 was last seen at Tanargra air base in 2013.
