As 44-92847 , this C-47 was the lead aircraft opening the D-Day Invasion. It dropped paratroopers of the 101st Airborne behind Utah Beach just before 1AM on June 6, 1944. Sold surplus in 1946, it became NC88874 with United Gas Corporation. Pictured in the transient cargo area at Toronto, I did not have time to find out about the significance of the feathered propeller on the left engine. The aircraft was restored for the 75th anniversary of of D Day and is current with the American Airpower Heritage Museum at the time of uploading.

Ex USAF 42-24248, RAF FL527 and SAAF 6862. To ZS-NZA in August 1996 and to Air Katanga/ITAB of Lubumbashi as 9Q-CJJ in April 1999. Withdrawn from use and moved to a point approximately 30km to the north of the city by 2018. Still visible on satellite images in May 2022.

Ex ZS-BRW, KG651, 42-108962. Became SU-AZI on 5 November 1976 and restored as G-AMHJ on 26 August 1977. Registration cancelled on 23 January 2003 as withdrawn from use and presented by Air Atlantique to the Assault Glider Trust, RAF Shawbury, where it was displayed in RAF colours as KG651. It was moved to Metheringham Airfield Visitors Centre in Lincolnshire on 16 November 2015, where it is preserved under cover.

Dakota heaven Villavicencio in 2008. HK-1175 was delivered 43-15966 in 1944. To NC53474 and NC65743 in 1946, N65743, N3935C, CF-DME in 1956, N5592A in 1959 and to Lineas Areas La Uracca as HK-1175 in 1964. To Transamazonica in 1985 then to Air Colombia by 2008, the year this picture was taken.

This is ex PT-KUC in fake Fuerza Aerea Colombiana colours as HK-123. Parque Jaime Duque is north of Bogota and has a few classic airacrft. The park is adjacent to the new location of the Museo Aeroespacial Colombiano (since 2016).

US Army Air Force 42-23951 was transferred to Qantas as VH-AFA in August 1944. Later VH-AEZ with Trans Australian Airlines, the aircraft worked it's way around the world as VR-NCO, 5B-AA, EI-ANK, G-ATBE before coming to Canada in 1970 for North Coast Air Services. Pictured with Ilford Riverton Airways (later Air Manitoba), the aircraft was last flying for Points North Air Service 1994 - 98, it was donated to the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum in 2014.

To ZS-BRW on 16May1947 Pan African Air Charters. To the UK 06Feb1951 as G-AMHJ with Cyprus Airways. Later with Iraq Petroleum Transport Co, Hunting Clan,British United, Morton Air Services, BUIA, British Island Airways, Macedonian Aviation, Intra Airways, Jersey European, Air Atlantique, Air Luton and Atlantic Air Transport. WFU CVT 04 Jan 2002. Restored 2004 at Shawbury as KG651. To Metheringham visitor centre 16 Nov 2015.

Kavac is a tiny grass airstrip next to a small village near Canaima in Venezuela.

Delivered to USAAF 23 October 1943. Participated in Operation Overlord (D-Day, 6 June 1944). After WWII it remained in Europe and was used in the Berlin Airlift. Transferred to Turkish Air Force in 1949, returned to U.S. in 1970, assigned to Ohio ANG. On 9 June 1973 it was dedicated in the Air Park, having been modified to represent an AC-47D.
