In 1947(!) this B-17 was put up as an eye-catcher at Art Lacey's Bomber Gas & Restaurant on SE McLoughlin Boulevard in Milwaukie, OR, on the west side of Route 99E. In this photo the faded name "Sky Chief" can still be seen on the nose, taken from Texaco's gasoline brand of the same name. Nearly 50 years later, in March 1996, the forward fuselage and the tail gun turret were removed for restoration, but the rest of the aircraft remained at the restaurant until also removed in December 2014. This EAA operated aircraft is actually ex 44-85740, one of 2750 B-17's built by Lockheed Vega at Burbank. I flew aboard her for a trip over the Oshkosh Show and back to Appleton.

Ex N3702G, a former air tanker.

Ex Bolivian freighter CP-891. Sold to USAF for static display. Initially painted as 42-30092, actually a B-17F. Repainted several times since this photo and now in correct World War 2 markings as 44-6393 "Starduster".

Ex N3713G. Ended its USAF service as a DB-17P drone director but was converted back to a B-17G for its role in the TV series 12 O'Clock High. Withdrawn from use and placed on display at Chino in 1971.
