A few years later it became an aitanker, and in the late 1980s it entered the warbird circuit, falsely painted as "297400 / K-E" as seen here. William Lyon acquired it for his museum in Jan 2006.

Built as B-17G and delivered to the US Army Air Force in July 1945 as 44-85828. To the US Coast Guard as PB-1G 77254 in September 1946. To NAS Elizabeth City in October 1959, assigned for disposal. To several owners as N9323R after March 1960. Converted for aerial spraying (July 1962) and airtanker (1963-1980). Transferred to the Pima Air Museum in December 1980 for display, initially in authentic markings as 44-85828. In early 1986 it was painted in these fake markings as 231892 / DI-H.

This Douglas-built B-17 spent many years on a civil career in Bolivia, starting in 1957 as CP-627. It crashlanded at La Paz in Aug 1968 and was rebuilt using major parts from another civil B-17 (CP-580 c/n 9300), effectively changing it into a composite airframe. After repairs it became CP-891 and continued to operate from La Paz until its delivery to the March Field Air Museum in Oct 1981. It was initially given the fake serial "230092", but in 1999 it was repainted with its actual former serial, seen in this photo. This nice "Return to Glory" nose art is only carried on this side.

This WW II veteran peformed 6 bombing missions over Europe in the begining of 1945 ( 5 over Germany and 1 over France). Became civilian in 1953 as F-BGSP in France with IGN for30 years; Then, restored and maintained in airworthy conditions until 2010;

Coming from Greybull we just outdrove the snowstorm coming in from the right.

In the tightly packed American Air Museum at Duxford. Returned to display in 2012 following a 1-year restoration, and was repainted in its original markings as 44-83735. Formerly carried the markings of 42-31983/IY-G "Mary Alice".

Previously with the French Institut Geographique National (IGN) as F-BEEC, what registration can vaguely be seen on the fuselage. The British one is underneath the wing. Now in the USA as N900RW.
