Almost immediately after being taken over from BA, BAF leased Yankee Sierra out to Algeria for four months resulting in this pleasing hybrid livery

Beginning life as a USAAF C-54 in 1944 then serving Pan Am and Alitalia among others after DC-4 modification, the airframe arrived in the UK as G-AOFW with Air Charter in 1955. Emerging as a Carvair in 2.64, she served Iberia and Aviaco briefly before her BUAF career

The majority of Yankee Romeo's lease for a year to BCal was spent in this Commuter c/s, replacing the first scheme shown in my previous shot. Gatwick's North Terminal can be seen under construction in the background

Delivered to BEA in June 1958. Served BAF from May 1981 until being broken up at Southend in February 1985.

"Rupert Keegan" served BAF from March 1975 until sale to Zaire as 9Q-CAH in April 1983, inevitably crashing just over a year later. Originally CF-NAC with Nordair and Eastern Provincial.

Initially operated by BEA from new in April 1958. Bought by BAF in January 1984 and here operating a regular summer inclusive tour service at Manchester from/to Jersey.

Just a month after acquisition from BA, this Viscount was contracted out to Oasis Oil (note Libyan flag on rear fuselage). The basic scheme is the very early version used by BAF complete with the yellow cockpit coaming which didn't last long at all. Last used in the UK as G-OPFI by Parcelforce, she was exported to Africa in 8.99 as 3D-PFI, changing hands under the marks 5V-TTP, TU-VAB, back to 3D-PFI and ending up as 9Q-COD in 7.07. Stored at Lubumbashi, Congo, in potentially flyable condition but sadly scrapped 2011

Yankee Golf, seen here in the later BAF colours, was wfu in 12.92 and broken up at SEN a couple of years later. Originally deliverd to BEA in 3.58

The third Herald built (in 1959), soon after arrival with BAF from Trans Brasil. There were only six Srs 100's made and fortunately this historically significant machine survives, appropriately preserved at Woodley where it was built

This lovely livery was very short lived, being replaced a couple of months later by a completely different BCal Commuter colour scheme (see other scan) for the remainder of the lease of this single Viscount from BAF from 3.85 to 5.86. Scrapped at SEN 1996

Screaming Darts were very much a feature of Jersey till the 1990s. Here, Hotel Mike shows off BAF's third livery applied to the Viscount fleet, complete with the revised titling. After being operated in the red Parcelforce colours, the aircraft became 3D-OHM in 8.99 but aborted t/o and veered off the runway at N'djamena, Chad on 24.7.01. Despite being written off, attempts were made to restore her for flight - until a soldier sleeping under the wing accidentally fired his gun and punctured a fuel tank

Leased by Virgin for the summer of 1985 for its Maastricht link, this Viscount dated back to 1957 when bought by BEA and lasted until 3.91 with BAF when it was broken up at Southend after storage
