I tried to capture the wing planform of the MiG-21I, testbed for the Tu-144 which, of course, stands in the background. This MiG-21 has no horizontal tailplane. Note camera fairings behind cockpit and on top of fin.

Though almost 5,000 of this type were built, this is one of only two surviving original Yak-3, the other being in the Commemorative Airforce Museum at Camarillo, Ca. Powered by a 1.222 hp Klimov engine this aircraft served in a French Regiment, 'Normandie-Niemen' on the Eastern front and was given by Stalin to its French Pilot in May 1945.

Imagine this thing making a running take-off at 100 km/h (62 mph), which it could apparently do. Built in 1968, this airframe was retired in 1974 with only 92 flying hours.

On the day that the An-225 Mriya was making its first flight at Kiev in the Soviet Union, Schiphol Airport was treated with the visits of two Antonov 22s. This photo shows the second of the two, taxiing to the cargo ramp where the other one was already parked. This aircraft was built in 1975, and it is one of only a few An-22s that were still flying in 2016. The sound of its engines and eight contra-rotating props is unbelievable…

In the older days the Paris Air Show often brought very interesting Soviet transports, such as Il-76s and Antonov 22s like this one. They were not present during the show itself, but during the days before and after. CCCP-09333, seen here taxiing in after landing, with its four engines and eight contra-rotating props making an unbelievable sound, first flew in May 1972. It was withdrawn from use in the mid 1990s, and broken up for scrap at Ivanovo during 1997.

Rare reconnaissance aircraft, powered by twin RD-9AF turbojets. 180 Yak-27Rs served in the Soviet air force between 1960 and 1971.

The reported construction number is credible, making Monino's Mitchell a B-25D-30, US serial 43-3355. It retains its ventral turret, which is rare. Soviet B-25s were based at Monino for some time during World War II.

An engine failed on the An-124 that was being demostrated at the Farnborough Airshow and this aircraft brought in a replacement. It is seen about to depart on a trade day.
