This early 727 was delivered to Eastern Airlines on October 7, 1964. Retired to Marana, AZ, it's future did not look good among the aircraft stored and being broken up when photographed. Sold to Monarch Aviation in September 1982 however, it would be put back together and converted to a freighter in December. It went on to fly in Australia, USA and South America before final retirement by LAS Lineas Aereas Suramericanas in 2006. It was broken up in Bogota, Colombia during 2007.

In the version of the Eastern livery which had slightly narrower cheatlines below the window line.

This aircraft was flown as a "McDonnell Douglas 188" STOL demonstrator in the northeast corridor in the US during 1968. It was not registered in the USA, but was operated by the French Air Force on behalf of McDonnell Douglas in full Eastern Air Lines livery, under its military serial 2 (callsign F-ZJRL, formerly coded "L"). The following year it was painted in American Airlines livery and flown on other routes. The aircraft returned to France in June 1969 and was then operated by the French AF coded 62-NB until withdrawn from use in 1974. McDonnell Douglas had obtained a license to build this in the US as the 188, but since the airlines showed little interest the project was aborted.

From my collection, photographer unknown, aircraft was delivered to Eastern Air Lines as N828D in Dec 1957 and operated by them until early 1965, before being sold to Transair Sweden as SE-ERG, wfu Aug 1968 and b/u MMX in 1969.

This Tristar is wearing the cheatline below the windows and is shortly before lining up on RWY 12 for a late afternoon departure to South America.

Delivered November 12, 1969, N8830E would later be working the Eastern Air Shuttle when that service was sold to Donald Trump. Re-registered N917TS in July 1989, the 727 would follow the sale of the shuttle service again to US Air in April 1992. This aircraft was withdrawn from service in June 1994 and parts started being removed at Tucson, AZ in 1995.
