Swissair's first DC-3 and flagship of the fleet. Fitted with right hand door. Delivered from the Fokker DC-2/3 assembly line at Schiphol on 10 June 1937. Has the prewar style of titling below the cabin windows when operating to Croydon in 1938. Sold to Ozark in 1955 as N2815D. Image obtained over 50 years ago.

A typical scene at Ringway in the early 1950s with the apron dominated by the good old DC-3. HB-IRE on the Zurich schedule is nearest, then KLM, Air France and British European Airways at far left. The Swissair DC-3 was assembled by Fokker in April 1939 and is fitted with Wright Cyclone engines with narrow chord cowlings.

Swiss Air Lines "Neuchatel" taxies towards Runway 06 to depart on the scheduled service from Ringway to Zurich (Kloten). It still wears the original all-metallic finish with no white top yet added. HB-IRV served SR from February 1949 until sale to Mohawk Airlines in November 1956.

Swissair's "Ticino" on finals to Runway 06 inbound from Zurich. Previously with KLM as PH-TEA, this aircraft crashed six days later in the English Channel, six miles off Folkestone (Kent), when it ran out of fuel.

At the Visitors Hill at MUC, a modern CRJ is framed with two great classic airliners, and opposing WWII workhorses, the Ju 52 and DC-3. Originally 41-2005, a rare C-53B, this aircraft served with several airlines in Scandinavia after the war (lastly with Nor-Fly as LN-KLV), but never with Swissair. Its last real registration was N65371. The real HB-IRN still exists in Lucerne.

The early morning fog lifts to reveal Swissair's night-stop DC-9 ready for another day's work. Sold to Texas International in 1.81 and soon absorbed into Continental, this one went on to Legend, then Laser in Venezuela as YV-1121C in 3.02, changing to YV167T; stored at Sanford, FL from 2013
