Lying in a bit of a secluded area in one of the exhibit hangars. I was slightly surprised to see a Dutch glider here, so far away from home. It was donated to the museum by its Dutch owner in 2013 and is the only civil sailplane to have flown on Malta. This was achieved through special permission during the Malta International airshow, when the aircraft was towed into the air. After the rope release, it performed a number of aerobatic manoeuvres before landing back at Luqa. Back in 2013, it still had its wings attached and was seen underneath the left wing of the DC-3 that is present in the same hall.

This aircraft has the tail of MM6377, but the forward fuselage is from MM6387/2-11.

Ex USAAF 43-15762, NC9033H, ZS-DLX, N9033H, ZS-DLX, CF-ITH, VP-KLJ, CF-ITH, Hal Far Fire School. Transferred to the museum at this former WWII airfield 24 April 1996. An eclectic selection of parts stored underneath.

This camouflaged LAPE DC-2 landed at Ta Qali on 12 November 1938 at 2pm, bringing Spanish Minister Bernardo Giner de los Ríos and three generals en-route to Ankara for the state funeral of Turkish President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
