The B-45 was a plane of many firsts; the first US four-engined bomber to fly, the first US production jet bomber, the first jet capable of carrying a nuclear bomb and the first multi-jet reconnaisance aircraft to refuel in midair. This example was flown to the National Museum of the USAF in 1971 and wears markings of the 47th BW (light).

The T-6 made its name as a trainer but was rapidly pressed into service at the start of the Korean War in the role of a forward air controller (FAC). The FAC T-6D 'Mosquito' version performed well but was retired by the USAF as single props were thought to be unsuitable for these missions in the jet-age, a decision that was quickly reversed in Vietnam. This Mosquito flew with the 6147th Tactical Air Control Group in the Korean War and was eventually acquired by the National Museum of the USAF in 1995.

As one can guess from the folded-wingtips this was a Naval Zero and painted to represent a section leader's aircraft from the aircraft carrier 'Zuiho' during the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, March 1943. A forerunner of the Republic P-47, the P-35 was the USAAC first production single-seat, all-metal pursuit plane with retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. Of the 76 P-35s accepted into service, this example on display at the National Museum of the USAF is the only known survivor. It served with the 94th Pursuit Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group and is marked as the plane flown by the 17th Pursuit Squadron commander in the Philippines in the spring of 1941. Marked as P-35A 41-17449 in the TDB, but actual identity is USAAF 36-404 (a P-35).

The Martin MB-2 was the first US designed bomber produced in large numbers and became the Air Service's primary multi-engine bomber until replaced by the Keystone bombers of the late 1920s. The Martin MB-2 designers incorporated an interesting element, since its large wingspan made it difficult to store in a hangar, the aircraft had hinged wings No original MB-2 exists rather the reproduction on display at the NMUSAF was built using original Martin drawings and completed in 2002.
