This is the fuselage of the second of two XF-90 a/c built. After two years of flight testing it was retired to the Nevada Test Site. There, it was subjected to three atomic bomb tests in 1952. Recovered by the USAF Museum, part of the decontamination process included removing all rivets in order to purge radioactive sand particles. The XF-90 is located in the restoration hangar and is not on display.

The XB-43 was a pure jet version of the XB-42. This a/c was the second of two built, and was designated YB-43. It first flew on 15 May 1947. Given the name "Versitile II by the ground crew, it spent its time being used as a test bed a/c with one General Electric J35 engine replaced with a J47 jet engine undergoing flight testing. Retired in 1953, it was donated to the Smithsonian Museum in 1954. In 2010 it was transferred to the USAF Museum and is currently in the restoration hangar and not on display.

This was the first of two XB-42 "Mixmaster" a/c built. It first flew on 6 May 1944. The design showed great promise, but the end of WW2 saw the USAAF looking for jet powered designs and XB-42 didn't go into production. In 1946 it was modified with a Westinghouse 19XB-2A podded turbojet under each wing, hence the "A" designation. It was donated to the Smithsonian Museum in 1949, never displayed, and transferred to the USAF Museum in 2010. It is located in the restoration hangar and not on display.
