Most probably this is former Polish Air Force serial 917 which is preserved since 1999 at Birmingham (AL) since 1999. That Lim-2 was a former stored aircraft at AMARC (1993). The fuselage is here seen at Reno-Steadfield in 1989. Some other likewise Lim-2 were used by the Defense Test & Evaluation Agency, Kirtland AFB (NM) before they went into storage. Is anyone able to confirm this?

This former Polish Air Force Lim-2 was sold to the USA as N629BM and was registered as such on 6 March 1987. The registration was not carried. The aircraft was pictured at Reno-Steadfield in August 1989 and still carried its original Polish serial, but received Soviet stars on its tail and wings. Between March 1987 and August 2015 it was based at the War Eagles Air Museum, Santa Teresa Airport/Dona Ana County Airport, El Paso (NM). In late 2015 it was sold on 27 October 2016, the date the N629BM was cancelled. The aircraft was shipped to Russia in 2017. Since, the databases lost track on it.

This Lim-2 was used in this Iraqi Air Force colourscheme in the 1988 movie Steel the Sky. Unfortunately, it was fully unmarked. It possibly belonged to a shipment of fourteen former Polish Air Force Lim-2's that went thru the UK in 1986 to the USA, being serials 271, 638, 640, 817, 822, 1013, 1016, 1120, 1205, 1416, 1606, 1614, 1621, 1629. This F-5E was transferred from the USAF (ex serial 73-0858) to the US Navy in April 1975. It received BuNo 160792. In its adversary role with VFA-127 Cyclones, this specific Tiger II was selected to act as a MiG-28 in the 1986 movie Top Gun. After VFA-127 was disestablished on 23 March 1996, the F-5E was moved to VFC-13. After its military career, the aircraft is preserved at Ryan-Hemet (CA) since late 2010, sadly, not in this nice black MiG-28 colour scheme.

This is F-5F 160966 of VFA-127 "Cyclons" was pictured at the ramp homebase NAS Fallon (NV) The adversary squadron was disestablished on 23 March 1996 and most F-5s were transferred to VFC-13. BuNo 160966 is former US Air Force serial 75-0755. By 2005, the forward fuselage of this 160966 was probably used to create Franken F-5F BuNo 761580 (which is in its turn former Swiss AF J-3055). The rear part and wings of 160966 were most probably scrapped.
