"Big John" on short finals for Southend's runway 06. Made the last BAF car ferry flight in January 1977. WFU at Southend in February 1977. After years of deterioration it was re-painted, engines re-fitted and placed on temporary static display outside BAF Engineering in October 1981 until sold to a scrap dealer in December 1983 and broken up on-site despite attempts by a former BAF Captain to save it.

On short final for runway 06. Operated by KHM Aviation. To G-EEVA August 2003 and cancelled to the USA in October 2005.

Landing into wind as ably evidenced by the famous Rochford General Hospital chimney in the background which is still in existence as a landmark in 2025 although the hospital closed in the 1990s. To G-BWJW in January 2004.

Operated by the Denham Flying Training School. Still current in 2025.

From 2 FTS at Ternhill. Carried out an air-sea rescue demonstration as part of the recruiting event on Southend Seafront (see #798148 & #798149). Went tech, necessitating a visit by another 2 FTS example, XP338 "N", from Ternhill with spares. Preserved with the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton.

Destroyed on 3rd June, 1976.

Exported to the USA April 1989.

This aircraft was delivered to United in December 1959 as a DC-8-11 and updated to a -12 in March 1964. It was traded in to Boeing in November 1977, converted to DC-8-21(F) status and briefly flown in 1978 wearing International Express titles. In early 1979 it was acquired by Concord International Airlines and re-registered N579JC, only to be sold to Michigan Peninsular Airlines in September that year. It was photographed withdrawn at Marana-Pinal Air Park in March 1982 and stored there until broken up in 1985, the registration being cancelled on 30 March 1985.

47 years later, at the time of writing, this aircraft is still active flying in the UK as G-FRAR with Draken Leasing Ltd.

Noticeable difference from the Sabreliner 40 is the additional third window. This one was built in 1965 and withdrawn from use as XA-PIC by 2006.
