VH-KEA came to Australia from Kenya (VP-KDZ) in 1961, probably with the Lycoming engine already installed. On renewal of its Kenyan CoA in 1960 the type had been changed to Auster 5 Special. The military Auster 5 was Lycoming powered. In Australia its type reverted to Auster J-1N but all photos show it with the American engine. VH-KEA was destroyed by an arsonist at Lake Entrance, Victoria, on November 19, 1996.
