Delivered to the RAF in June 1948 and flown for many years as a communications aircraft by the RAE at Farnborough. Painted in the 'Raspberry Ripple' colour scheme by 1977, retired in 1994, it became G-BWFB in July 1995. Sold in the US as N959VP in December 1997 but never left the UK and cancelled from the US register in August 2000. Believed to remain stored in Warwickshire at time of upload.

Ex N6251Y. Registration cancelled on 6 May 1981 on sale to the USA as N4241N. It was still current in the US in 2015.

Originally built for Panagra Airways in 1960, this early DC-8 flew with Capitol from 1967 to 80. By this date most of the Capitol DC-8-50 Srs and -60 Srs had been seen on airways so it was a nice surprise to see this oldie on the ground.

An early example of the push-back procedure for departing aircraft. There doesn't appear to be anyone on intercom so they must have used hand signals. On lease from Swissair here and it ended its days with Spantax.

TAROM were playing it politically savvy by operating this Soviet type and the western BAC 111 at the same time. It payed off and resulted in the Rombac 111 which was produced in Bucharest.

Originally built for Western Airlines in 1957 and was later operated by Japan Airlines before sale to Trans-Union. Livery was royal blue. In the background are (L) Overseas National Airways stretch DC-8, (C) American Flyers Airline stretch DC-8 and (R) Wardair B707.

Brand new and possibly outbound here on delivery as it was cancelled to Libya on 19 July 1969 where it became 5A-BBA. Last known as 5A-DEA c.1974 and reportedly since broken up.

Gatwick was a major European hub for the Canadian Armed Forces. Douglas Dakotas and Bristol Freighters ferried personnel from and to France and Germany while the Hercules and Yukon were used across the Atlantic. Delivered to the RCAF in 1961, this one went to Zaire in 1974 and scrapped there in 1983.
