This Pioneer II was a prototype of a Pioneer I, (VL515) which was civil registered as G-AKBF. The original prototypes (VL515 and VL516) were fitted with Alvis Leonides engines and receiving civil registrations (G-AKBF and G-ANAZ). The first, G-AKBF seen here at Farnborough in 1951 and later to become a RAF Scottish Aviation Pioneer CC.1 - XE512.
