This F-105F flew combat missions in 1969-70 with the 354 TFS, 355 TFW out of Takhli RTAFB, Thailand. On 10 March 1984 it made the last flight of a F-105F when it was flown from Hill AFB, Utah to Chanute AFB. When the base closed in the early 1990s it was transferred to the Octave Chanute Museum. The museum closed in 2015, and sadly this a/c did not find a new home. It was scrapped in early 2019.

Chanute AFB was still active when I took this slide. This F-100C was redesignated a GF-100C in February 1963 and was used as a ground instructional airframe at Chanute AFB until September 1974. It then was painted in Thunderbird markings and put on display at the base. When the base closed it was transferred to the Chanute Air Museum. In 2009 it was transferred to the Prairie Air Museum in Bloomington, IL. where it is on display.

This C-47 was built as a C-47B-16-DK at Oklahoma City and TOC with the USAF in December 1944. It was converted twice, firstly in September 1954 to a C-47D and then around 1956 an executive interior was fitted to make it a VC-47D. In July 1971 it was transferred to the Chanute Air Force Base Training Center at Rantoul and used as an instructional airframe. Unfortunately the Chanute museum had already closed for good and all its exhibits were being disposed of. Due to the kindness of one of the administrators I was allowed an hour to have a look around. This F-4 first flew in September 1963 and was used, in the first part of its service life, as a test aircraft, for example in the development of the J79 engine. In June 1978 it was transferred to Chanute Technical Training Center (Air Training Command) at Chanute AFB but SOC in May 1985 and placed on display. Fortunately it is now on display at the Regional Military Museum in Houma, LA.

This slide was taken when Chanute AFB was still active, the a/c being used as a ground instructional airframe. After the base closed in the early 1990s it was transferred to the Octave Chanute Museum on the former base. When the museum closed in 2015 this a/c did not find a home and was scrapped.
