What a treat during FL2006: a freshly arrived Razorback P-47!

In fact P-47D 45-49192 which served post-war with the Peruvian Air Force as 545 and 119 before being returned to the US in 1969 and flying again as N47DD in 1973. After crashing in 1980, the wreck was brought to Duxford in 1985 for a complex static restoration. Now displayed as the commander of the 56th FG's Thunderbolt at Boxted during the late stages of WWII

Constructed as P-47D-15-RA 42-23278 by Republic at Evansville, IN and registered N5087V and N347D postwar, this "Razorback" (later P-47Ds had a bubble canopy) was donated to the USAFM by Republic in 1964, having appeared at the Paris Air Show the previous year. By 2004 it had been repainted as the P-47 in which Col. Neel Kearby won the first Medal of Honor awarded to a US fighter pilot, with 22 kills in the Pacific theatre before being shot down over New Guinea in March 1944. The actual fin of his aircraft, named after his red-haired wife, was recovered from the wreck site is shown alongside

Delivered to the USAAF as 45-49205. To the Peru Air Force as 547 in 1953. Later reserialled to 122. Stored at Plura AB from 1963. Shipped to the USA and registered as N47DE in 1969. To Warbirds of Great Britain as G-BLZW in 1979 then to Planes of Fame East, Flying Cloud, Minneapolis, MN as N47DE in 1985. Reregistered as N47RP in 1986. To the Palm Springs Air Museum, CA in 1997. Current on the register in airworthy condition in 2025.

USCR quotes ID as 453436 (later 44-89136), CAF IDs airframe as 44-53436, other sources ID airframe as 44-88436 or 45-53456 or 44-89436. Under restoration as 44-89136, in Georgia (2024) Rear fuselage: Confederate Air Force; Republic P-47N Thunderbolt; N47TB

Correct serial is 4110, ex USAAF 42-26762. Flown by the Brazilian Expeditionary Force in Italy as 226762 before being shipped to Brazil in 1945 and being re-serialled as 4110. Used as a ground instructional frame at Base Aerea Curitiba from 1952 and displayed outside the museum since 1989 as '226756' (which was written off in an accident at Santa Cruz in 1946).

This is a composite aircraft made from a P-47N fuselage and parts of N47DD/45-49192 which had crashed in 1980. First flew as N47DD in 1985. Reregistered as G-THUN in 1999, N147PF in 2006 and G-THUN in 2018.

P-47D retained by Republic as a development aircraft. Converted into a YP-47M in a bid to produce an aircraft able to catch V-1 buzz bombs and the new German jets.
