The Ferranti Flying Unit based at Edinburgh Airport used this night-fighter Meteor, which was ex WM261, between 1960 and 1973 to test radar equipment and to transport company personnel. The paint scheme of white with a red stripe led to the aircraft being nicknamed 'Mentadent' after the brand of toothpaste.

Built in 1953 as a Meteor NF.11, RAF serial WM261. Used as a trials aircraft by Armstrong-Whitworth and Ferranti. Converted to NF.14 standard as the prototype of that version. Became G-ARCX in 1960, going into operational service at Edinburgh with the Ferranti Flying Unit, as a radar test and development aircraft.
