This UK Army Beaver wears a dark camouflage and the markings of "Operation Drake" which the aircraft had supported from the Arctic down through the Americas to the Antarctic. It crashed on 1 February 1983.
Here in its original camouflage scheme outside a nice little terrace at Gatwick, this Beaver was taken on charge by the AAC in 4.61 but crashed at a Culdrose air show on 27.7.83 when it was caught by a 27 knot crosswind during a tight turn, causing the port wing to strike the ground
Former Royal Army Service Corps Beaver was first flown April 7 1961 as XP779. Most recently, it was purchased for the Historic Flight Foundation and rebuilt in 2008. Registered N779XP, it's flown as L-20A 52-6132 in USAF markings.
