Delivered to Delta as N9896 in 1970. To Boeing in 1974 then to China Airlines as N40108 then B-1868 in 1976. To Pan Am as N902PA in 1978. Fitted with a Side Cargo Door in 1986. To Evergreen International as N481EV in 1991 and converted to a freighter. Preserved at McMinnville, OR from 2010.

Rotating at the western end of Heathrow 28L, Delta DC-8s then 747s served Heathrow under an interchange agreement with Pan Am. Registration N9***.

Holding for departure on 9L, this 747 later carried the regns of N8769V, N40108, B-1868, N902PA and N481EV.

Ex N9896 of Delta, and N40148 and B-1868 of China Airlines. became Evergreen N481EV.

Jumbos were never widely used by Delta until much more recently as a result of the Northwest takeover, but they could be seen on Heathrow schedules for a short period back in the Seventies. And they will have the distinction of being the last US airline to operate them on passenger services. N9900, seen here taking off from runway 10R in September 1974, was a 1971-build Srs 100 converted to a freighter in 1977. Went to Flying Tigers as N805FT being taken over by FedEx as N625FE; ended up as Kalitta's N709CK and and scrapped at Oscoda, MI (the old Wurtsmith AFB) in 2015

Served Delta from new in September 1970 until sold in September 1974. Later to China Airlines, Pan American and Evergreen.

B-1860 was originally with Delta Airlines. After China Airlines it was converted to an air tanker with Evergreen.
