Constructed as an A-26C-35-DT at Tulsa and joining the USAAF as 44-35483, this Invader was modified to TB-26C in 1948. Damaged in a landing accident in 1948, it was eventually converted to a B-26K by On Mark Engineering at Van Nuys in 1966 for the 1st SOW at Eglin AFB, FL with new serial 64-17666. On deployment to Thailand in 1968, it had to be re-designated as an A-26A to overcome local restrictions on bombers operating from that country. In 1971 it became the first of many aircraft to be displayed at the Hurlburt gate, mounted on a plinth as seen in my 1979 image here

The first of what would become many aircraft placed preserved at the Hurlburt gate was unveiled in 1971. Initially mounted on a plinth, this Invader which had been converted from an A-26C to B-26K in 1965 was later displayed on its own landing gear and underwent various changes to its markings, ending up as shown in my December 2024 photo

This A-26 was the first aircraft to be dedicated in the Air Park, on 4 July 1970. It was originally mounted on a pylon, as seen in the photo. It was later repainted and repositioned onto its landing gear. It saw combat in Vietnam with the 56th Special Operations Wing, based at Nakon Phanom Royal Thai Air Base, flying its last combat mission on 9 November 1969.

1945: TOS USAAF as A-26C s/n 44-35483. 1948: Redesignated B-26C and converted to TB-26C. Assigned to 1st Technical Training Squadron, Biggs Field, TX. Continued to serve with ANG. 12/64 to 2/65: Remanufactured as B-26K, TOS USAF with s/n 64-17666. Assigned to 1st SOW at Eglin AFB, FL. 1968: Redesignated as A-26A and deployed to Thailand for combat in Vietnam. 1970: Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ. 1971: Air Commando Park, Hurlburt Field, Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Erroneous tail number.

Built as A-26C 44-35484. Converted to B-26K COIN aircraft by On Mark Engineering. Displayed at Hurlburt wearing incorrect serial 71-666.
