Constructed as an A-26C-35-DT at Tulsa and joining the USAAF as 44-35483, this Invader was modified to TB-26C in 1948. Damaged in a landing accident in 1948, it was eventually converted to a B-26K by On Mark Engineering at Van Nuys in 1966 for the 1st SOW at Eglin AFB, FL with new serial 64-17666. On deployment to Thailand in 1968, it had to be re-designated as an A-26A to overcome local restrictions on bombers operating from that country. In 1971 it became the first of many aircraft to be displayed at the Hurlburt gate, mounted on a plinth as seen in my 1979 image here This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
