Details of the Beaver nose extension

Misty Fjords Air's beautiful Beaver (with logo and titles) on approach to its home base at Doyons Landing. The photo was taken from the top deck of the cruise ship Zaandam as we sailed away from Ketchikan. This Beaver was once registered in Canada as C-GBHJ. Sadly, it was found inverted on the ocean in the Strait of Georgia, British Columbia with the retractable wheels extended on the floats. Unfortunately the pilot did not survive. It was rebuilt at Sealand and many of the upgrades include the cabin extension, and wide panorama windows.

This Beaver was exported to New Zealand and is now registered as ZK-AMA

C-GMIC is being taken across the road for the night. This Beaver spent many years with numerous operators on the West Coast before crashing in 2007 due to fuel starvation. It was salvaged and rebuilt and is now registered as N791PW and operating in Alaska

Beaver number 1 first flew on August 16, 1947. Flying in Canada it's entire career, the historic aircraft was sold by Norcanair to the National Museum of Science and Technology in July 1980 and placed in the National Aviation Collection (now the Canada Aviation and Space Museum).

This Beaver was rebuilt at Sealand at Campbell River and fitted with the Trace V8 Orenda engine of 600HP and a four blade composite reversing prop. Following certification in the US it then went to Val D'or Quebec for float certification. Possibly due to lack of interest in this conversion the program was dropped. The aircraft was de-registered and sold to a Canadian buyer. The engine was removed and it was transported back to Campbell River in a trailer. It remains un-registered. It will some day emerge as a Turbo Beaver, or perhaps will revert to its original R985 engine, but time will tell.

The very first Beaver, built in 1947. Photo taken somewhere on the shore of Slocan Lake when it was under contract to the British Columbia Forest Service. It would go on to operate for 33 years until its retirement in 1980. It is now a national treasure, preserved in the Canada Aviation & Space Museum in Ottawa. In its working life it had three sets of wings and ended up with 18,233 hours on the frame.

This Beaver had just completed its ferry flight from Ontario to Lake Hood. It then became registered as N676SP and all the paint has been stripped off and it is now shiny polished aluminum.
