R9816 was an RAF Anson I that was converted to an Anson IV at Woodford by exchanging the Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah engines for Wright R-975 Whirlwinds. After testing in the UK, it was shipped Canada where it received the serial 10257. Canadian produced Ansons were fitted with Jacobs L-6 and Pratt and Whitney R-985 radials to avoid transatlantic transport vulnerabilities. The Wright powered model remained a one-off. This former A&AEE Anson had been acquired by the Shuttleworth Collection in 1968 but, after a number of years, moved to Duxford. As can be seen here, it was the subject of a long-term restoration effort, apparently with a view to putting it back in the air. In the event, it later became an exhibit at the Al Mahatta Aviation Museum, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, wearing Gulf Aviation colours to represent G-AKVW, which was actually an Anson 1.
