Coasting to a stop at the Sydney Seaplanes terminal, Rose Bay. This Beaver was built in 1961 and delivered to the Ghana Air Force, registered G-213. It seems to have made its way to the USA around 1974, being civil registered as N37772. In 1976 it came to Australia, being re-registered as VH-IMR on 17 September that year. It was later re-registered again as VH-AAM(3) on 13 April 1992 and named 'Caledonia' after one of the old Empire flying boats that used to operate out of Rose Bay.

A rare case of cn and registration matching in this colourful factory-built Sapphire. Sapphires were once considered 'high performance' machines in the ultralight world, but they have now been overtaken by the plethora of larger, faster designs.

This unique aeroplane is the only airworthy Genairco in the world. Looking a lot like a Tiger Moth, the Genairco was actually a wholly Australian designed and built aircraft. This one was built in 1930 and has been flying more or less continuously since. Fairly recently restored to beautiful condition. Note the Polar Bear in the two-seat, side-by-side front cockpit!

The clubroom at the left is occupied by AirSports Australia, the ultralight flying school, whilst the office on the right belongs to Moloney. A Jabiru rests in the hangar at right, which carries the name of the nearest town, "Sunbury", on the roof (the other side has "Penfield").

This aircraft has a very interesting history. It was built to order of the Netherlands East Indies government in 1941 and based at Surabaya as PK-VVW, but shipped to Adelaide at the outset of the Japanese invasion. Impressed into RAAF Service 1942 as A17-626 and based at Temora, Richmond, Point Cook amongst others. Sold by RAAF 1954 to the Mackay Flying Club and became VH-GWB but crashed in Rockhampton in 1958 and was deregistered. Restored and re-registered as VH-MDV in 1959.

This lovely aircraft was the winner of the Concours d'Elegance and Best Tube and Fabric awards at the SAAA's 2008 'Escape to Cowra' fly-in. It's seen here getting airborne in the capable hands of owner-builder Rainer Huefner for a display at the Houdini-Centenary Air Show. As Rainer was careful to point out to me, this aircraft is not a One Design as it departs in some respects from the strict requirements for that classification.
