On display at Luftwaffenmuseum Gatow. When Anthony Fokker persuaded German authorities to fit a synchronised machine gun to his prototype E.1 Eindecker, the Luftstreitkräfte had its first fighter. Feldfliegerabteilungen 62 (Fl Abt 62) commanded by Hptm. Kastner had two pilots, Oswald Boelcke and his student Max Immelmann who were to pioneer air combat. Flying the Eindecker, both aces became household names and received the coveted Pour le Mérite for eight victories apiece on 12 Jan. 1916.

On display at AAM Duxford. Serving in Vietnam from 1964-71, F-100s were not found suitable over heavily defended N. Vietnam and were assigned to the fighter-bomber role in-country. They flew more missions than the P-51 in World War II. The F-100D was the most widely built model, with over 1200 being produced. Heavily modified in service, the 'Hun' suffered many accidents throught its career. Tailcode 'VM' belongs to 352 TFS 'Yellow Jackets' at Phan Rang AB.

Built by the Moth Aircraft Corporation, USA in 1929 as NC926M, this aircraft crashed in 1930. It was restored in 1987 to flying condition. Private flying in the UK really began in 1925 with the D.H.60 Moth. It was Sir Sefton Brancker, Dir. Gen. of Civil Aviation who wanted the man in the street to fly, after which flying clubs were formed with grants by the Ministry. The Gipsy Moth and Tiger Moth were to provide a pool of trained civilian pilots when war broke out in 1939.

On display at the National Air and Space Museum. The Albatros series suffered from wing failures in prolonged dives. However, it remained a frontline fighter and produced a number of German aces, including Manfred von Richthofen, who scored three-quarters of his 80 victories with the Albatros. This is a late war build that served with Jasta 46 that was formed at Graudenz. It was damaged in combat and was not repaired, eventually finding its way to the USA and was acquired by the Smithsonian.
