Thereafter used as instructional airframe 6946M, gate guardian (at RAF Andover as such 1963/67) and showpiece at events such as the Royal Tournament and Edinburgh Military Tattoo. To St.Athan April 1968 for restoration and subsequently presented in 1972 to the City of Stoke-on-Trent in memory of Reginald Mitchell, the designer of the Spitfire. Later restored by the Medway Aircraft Preservation Society Feb.2018 - June 2021 and returned to the Stoke Potteries Museum.

Subsequently to the gate at RAF Northolt and allocated 8071M. Became G-XVIB on 3 July 1989, and cancelled on 1 February 1990 on transfer to US marks as N476TE.
