Presumably stationed at MCAS Iwakuni on Japan, this old bird may soon be no more. Officially registered as N70270, but never painted on the aircraft. Photographed in one of the scrapyards bordering DM. Ex US Navy 137912 and the AMARC No. 1U016 is visible on the nose.

Repainted into much more attractive colours since my last visit two years earlier.

This Albatross was ordered for the USCG in 1954 as a UF-1G but was diverted to the USN and serialled Bu 142361. In 1957 it was attached to USN Naval Attache in Norway; in 1969 loaned to Icelandic Coast Guard. Returned to the USN same year and following year put into storage at Davis Monthan. Purchased in 1981 and civil registered N143DB. In 1998 sold in Australia, becoming VH-MAH(3). In storage at Tocumwal with a blown engine for many years but recently sold to Western Australia, becoming VH-HSQ.

This old Albatross served with the Navy as 137912 before being retired to MASDC during Aug. 1966 and stored with the inventory number 1U016. Now she languishes at the Allied scrapyard awaiting her fate. Officially registered as N70270, but never painted on the aircraft.

Delivered to US Navy in July 1955 as 137926.

In a former life this aircraft served with the US Navy as UF-1 131904, renamed HU-16C in 1962. Later it became civil as N7026X, N904G, N9131 and then N216HU as seen here. Now she is part of the Lauridsen Aviation Museum and has recently been painted into this stunning Coast Guard scheme. However, it never served with the USCG and the serial 7238 is fake.

Former USN BuN 141265 stored with many components missing.

Delivered to US Navy as UF-1 in April 1955. It latterly served as a rescue aircraft at NAS Iwakuni in southern Japan. Stored at MASDC from 1968. To Mexican Navy in 1981.

141262 is this amphibian's original BuNo. Now called an HU-16C, N7025N actually started flying as a UF-1 under an earlier designation system.

This aircraft participated in the 2001 "London to Sydney Centenary Air Race" and still has the markings to prove it.
