Built in 1928. Unfortunately this aircraft was lost on 10 August 1981 on the Las Vegas flightline when it was damaged beyond repair due to heavy winds.

Taken at Chicago Municipal Airport for a flight to Kansas City. Registered to United Airlines/National Air Transport on 3 June 1931. Replaced by the Boeing 247 it was sold to TACA, Honduras on 15 July 1935. Re-registered to TACA Nicaragua as AN-AAK24 January 1942. Sold to an unknown owner in Mexico in January 1946 as XA-FON. The aircraft was later operated by Servicios Aereos de Chiapas and was written off after a double engine failure resulted in a non-fatal crash on a flight from Veracruz-Las Bajadas Airport with four POB for Minatitlan/Coatzacoalco Airport, Mexico. To Northwest Airways in 1929. In 1935 to Alaska. Then it joined Monroe Airlines, Michigan. In June 1951 it was purchased by Johnson Flying Service, Missoula, MT with new c/r N8419 to be used by the United States Fire Services but for a short while it was used in a film "Red Skies of Montana". It was also leased back to Northwest Airlines for a commemorative flight in 1956. On 4 August 1959 the aircraft crashed at Grangeville, Idaho killing three people. The aircraft was substantially destroyed but rebuilt from the remains and other Tri-motor components. Registration cancelled 14 February 2018.

This was built as a 4-AT-B in 1928 but modified in February 1930 by Maddux to 4-AT-E standards with J-6 engines. Photographer unknown.

For their operations in South America, Panagra installed cargo hatches in the top rear fuselage of several of their Trimotors. This photo shows how they were used. I am not sure where this photo originated. I got the print from Steve Hudek's collection. Photographer unknown.

The Royal Typewriter Company of Hartford, Connecticut, bought this early Tri-Motor to deliver its typewriters to distributors. The intention allegedly was to drop them by parachute! Wikipedia even claims that 11,000 typewriters were airdropped but we don't believe it. The aircraft was sold to Stout Air Services within a few months. Operated by CLASSA, this Tri-Motor carried out the first air service from Spain to the Canary Islands on 20 May 1930, flying from Madrid to Los Rodeos on Tenerife via Casablanca. The aircraft was imported through Ford's European agent in the UK. On the left is almost certainly G-ABEF (c/n 4-AT-61). The location may well be Hooton, on the Mersey, where G-ABEF was assembled, although this was supposedly later in 1930. M-CCKA to EC-KKA in 1931. To G-ACAK, then to VH-USX for use in New Guinea, see other photo, and destroyed there by Japanese attack in January 1942.
