This plane was built as a MD-82 and delivered to Finnair in June 1985. It was modified to a MD-83 in December 1986 and is pictured taxiing out to rw28 for departure back to Helsinki (HEL). The plane went on to fly for Flying Finn Airways from May 2003 and then from April 2005 for Austral Líneas Aéreas (as LV-PJJ) and October 2010 with Andes Lineas Aéreas (LV-PAY). The plane was later scrapped at Orlando (SFB).

After the privatization of Japan Airlines in 1987, deregulation followed that allowed independent Japanese airlines to compete with JAL and All Nippon. TDA was rebranded to Japan Air System in 1988 competing with the majors until the airline was bought by JAL in 2001. By 2004 the airline name was changed to Japan Airlines Domestic until fully integrated to JAL in 2006. JA8498 was sold to Allegiant Air (N519PT) in June 2010 and flown to Kingman, AZ by July to be used for parts.
