'B-LATB Fasan seized in Reval [Tallinn]'. We don't know why the constables took action. This F13 was operated by the Latvian airline Latvijas Gaisa Satiksmes, or Lettländische Luftverkehrs AG in German, on the Tallinn - Riga - Königsberg route. B-LATB crashed in October 1924 and was replaced by another B-LATB (c/n 570). This is assumed to be the first one because of the irregular application of the registration, with dots. The distinctive hangar belonged to the Estonian airline Aeronaut and confirms the location as then Lasnamäe airfield. Photo from: ETH-Bibliothek Zürich

Swiss luggage manufacturer Rimowa financed the manufacture of this Junkers F13 replica and is building more for interested customers. Formerly HB-RIM, the aircraft was registered N13JU recently. The replica is very close to the original save for the Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior radial used as the powerplant and more modern landing gear. The German - Swiss project was launched in 2009 with the aircraft's first flight in 2016. Museum examples were studied and old manufacturing processes revived to ensure accuracy.

PLL Aerolot originated as PLL Aerolloyd in the Free City of Danzig in 1922. In 1925 the company was renamed, its German shareholders were bought out and the company moved its base to Warsaw. Six F13 aircraft are seen here, including P-PALP, P-PALR and P-PALG. P-PALF (c/n 776) was a recent acquisition in 1927, replacing P-PALF (c/n 625) which was lost in 1925. Junkers F13 production ran from 1919 until 1932, then an unusually long time. K-SALG was delivered to Aero O/Y in May 1928. The aircraft was soon sent to Norway to take part in the search and rescue operations following the crash of the airship Italia. Photo by: Harald Rosenberg / Helsinki City Museum

The aircraft was soon sent to Norway to take part in the search and rescue operations following the crash of the airship Italia. Photo by: Harald Rosenberg / Helsinki City Museum

The left half of the same original as photo 348021. This Danziger Luftpost aircraft does not yet carry its Danzig Free State registration Dz-35, but the German registration has been altered with a Z within the D. The coat of arms of Danzig (now Gdansk in Poland) contains two silver crosses above each other on a red shield, so the rudder is red. To Hansa Flugdienst subsidiary in 1938 for sightseeing and charter work as 'world's oldest airliner'. Commandeered for Luftwaffe Fliegerschule A/B 1 at Görlitz in June 1940 but damaged in November. Opening of a short-lived Dresden - Magdeburg - Hamburg floatplane service along the Elbe. A rather grand terminal building was erected here which still stands. The nearest F 13 can be identified as D-433, which was registered to the Junkers-affiliated Sächsische Luftverkehrs AG with the name Baumlaufer. Based on another photo, the other machine appears to be D-272 Silbermöwe, listed as one of the two regular F 13s on this service, together with D-583 Wildente.
