In the past, Iberia based a handful of DC-9s in the Americas, connecting at Miami with their Madrid services, in the days before more direct connections to South America were viable.

Delivered new 10th May 1983 and retired KROW (Roswell) 21st May 2006

The registration is a clue that this DC-9 was delivered first to North Central Airlines (September 16, 1976). With a name change to Republic Airlines in 1979 and merger with Northwest Airlines in 1986, the aircraft was in service until an accident put it out of action. On May 19, 2005, it suffered a failure of one (of two) hydraulic systems. Landing safely at Minneapolis, the crew inadvertently shut down the engine with the good hydraulic pump. Cascading failures of the nose wheel steering, brakes and thrust reversers for lack of hydraulic pressure caused the aircraft to collide with an A319.

Delivered new to Hawaiian Airlines 24th Apr 1981 and transferred to Frontier Feb 1986. Merged into Continental Airlines Nov 1986 and re-registered N14880 June 1991

Spirit was the last airline user of this MD-87. After retirement in 2002 and a period of storage, it became a VIP-configured transport with AMAC Aerospace in 2009, registered VP-CTF.

Fuselage broke into three sections after aircraft overran the runway at Denpasar on December 30, 1984.

This MD-87 was originally delivered to Iberia as (EC-302 then) EC-EYX in August 1990 and is pictured taxying in after landing on rw23. The plane was stored in january 2008 but by October had been placed with Air Burkina as XT-ABD. It has been stored at Olbia (OLB) since January 2015.
