The Hiller 1100 prototype, N81005 (c/n 1) first flew on on 21 January 1963. The type competed in the US Army's Light Observation Helicopter (LOH) competition and 62-4206 was the first YOH-5A. Although the serial is correct, it was found at some point that 62-4201 had been assigned twice, to a C-140 and a Bell YOH-4, and thus a few serials were changed, 4206 becoming 4207 in a paper exercise. This airframe was also NASA 530. Photo from: Wright State University

The M-200 civil tiltrotor transport, the last aircraft designed by Curtiss-Wright, was just about to be cancelled when the USAF agreed to make it the X-19. The first hovering flight only lasted a few seconds on 20 November 1963. This machine was tested at Caldwell until 1965. It crashed at the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (NAFEC), Atlantic City on 25 August 1965 with just four hours on the clock. A second airframe never flew. Roaring over Budapest! Üllői út is the avenue below. The Citadella on Gellért Hill is top left. Year is given as 1935 but that is unlikely since the pilot who is credited for the photo died in 1934. HA-FNC built by Manfréd Weiss in 1932, crashed in 1938. Photo from: Dezső Szent-Istvány / Fortepan

Duna (Danube) at Lake Balaton. The construction number 3570 is unconfirmed. The number 4.02, on the tailfin, is a LüH serial. Three Juniors were based at the Siófok seaplane station, which was clearly in the town's port, and, being two-seaters, were probably in the military training rather than the sightseeing business. According to avia-info.hu, it was this airframe which crashed near here on 13 July 1934, killing the very pilot who is credited for this photo and, if we understand local rumours correctly, was conveying greetings to the pharmacist's wife.
