Part of the Air Historical Branch Collection in the Biggin Hill Station Museum. Subsequently to the RAF Museum at Hendon and on major refurbishment at RAF Cosford in 2020.

The skeletal remains of a Wellington bomber which came to grief in the Angus hills between Ben Tirran and Muckle Cairn on 9 August 1942. The aircraft was believed to have been on a test flight from Lossiemouth when it lost part of an engine cowling, damaging a propeller and causing engine failure. Whilst attempting a forced landing, the aircraft crashed with the loss of four crew. Remarkably, the tail gunner survived the accident. It has been temporarily relocated to this 'tent' hangar to allow the Grade II listed WWII (1940) Bellman hangar to be dismantled, refurbished and rebuilt in a new position away from the old racing track finishing straight. The hangar was officially re-opened as the 'Aircraft Factory' including the Wellington by Prince Michael of Kent 13 November 2017.

This is a composite fuselage that was found being used as a garden shed. When N2980 was recovered from Loch Ness in 1985 parts of this were used in its restoration and some badly corroded parts of N2980 were used to keep the integrity of this. It is a walk through exhibit at this splendid museum.

Largely intact, the tail section is the most recognisable remains of this Wellington bomber which crashed near Ben Tirran, Angus, 67 years ago, killing four of the five crew members on board. The Wellington's geodetic design, developed by Barnes Wallis, can clearly be seen in this shot, and despite the ravages of time, is still in remarkable condition. The crash site, one of many littering the Scottish mountains, serves as a memorial to those who died in the accident.

Modified at Langley in 1949 for radar research flights over the North Sea. Afterwards returned to the RAF as RP468.

This aircraft crashed in Loch Ness on 31st December 1940 but was recovered in 1985 and taken to Brooklands where it has been conserved and partly restored. This was the main reason for my visit to Brooklands, though the whole museum was superb

Crash landed in Loch Ness, Scotland on 31 Dec 1940. Salvaged from the lake in Sep 1985 and arrived at the museum a week later, on 27 Sep 1985.

N2980 is the only surviving Brooklands-built Wellington. During a training flight on the 31st December 1940 she developed engine trouble and ditched into Loch Ness. All the crew escaped, but the rear gunner was killed when his parachute failed to deploy. In 1976 the aircraft was located by a team of American Loch Ness Monster hunters and was successfully salvaged on 21st September 1985 and undergoing restoration by the Brooklands Museum..

Famously retrieved from Loch Ness in 1985, when I took this shot of 'R Robert' I dedicated it to my 94-year old uncle that flew Wellingtons with 218 Sqdn in WWII. While on a raid over Hamburg in March 1941 aboard R1448, he was wounded during an attack by two Me110 night-fighters. Hospitalised on landing, his crew were lost on a subsequent mission

Wellington B.10 of No.11 Air Gunnery School, RAF Jurby, Isle Man visiting Manchester Ringway. The aircraft was built by Vickers at Blackpool Airport in 1945. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair on 23.05.49 when it was serving with 201 Advanced Flying School.

Built by Vickers at Blackpool in Summer 1945 as a B.X bomber RP468. Modified at Langley in 1949 with experimental radar equipment for tests and called at Ringway en route to flights along the Norwegian coast. Reverted to RP468 in October 1949.

Built by V-A at Blackpool (Squires Gate) in 1944 as a B.X bomber. Converted to T.10 for operation by No. 6 Air Navigation School based at RAF Lichfield. Preserved after retirement and painted as a B.X. Displayed at the RAF's 50th anniversary show at RAF Abingdon. Now at Hendon.
