Blasting away from the Kabul runway, topped of with live GBU air to ground bombs, most probably a filled 30mm canon and air-to-air Sidewinders, this Norwegian Viper starts a new mission to fight Taliban. One could think "why Sidewinders, as there was no air-to-air threat over Afghanistan"... the clarification is that the wing stress is decreased with the attachment of Sidewinders. The Norwegians shared the deployment within ISAF with the Dutch F-16s and together they formed the "first Netherlands / Norwegian Expedition Air Wing (EEAW) F-16 International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Detachment 4", or in short 1 NLD/NOR EEAW F-16 Det ISAF-4." as this was the actual unit of the aircraft during the deployment.

14 Fokker D.XVI's (275 - 288) were delivered, of which the first few aircraft had a Jaguar engine. They were troublesome engines which often caused problems and the need for a revision well before the indicated maximum flight hours of the engine. 277 was equipped with a Panther engine in July 1932 and set an altitude record (9587 m / 31,453 ft) in June 1932. In 1935 the aircraft was equipped with a different Panther engine and a three-bladed prop (with no armament). The aircraft was eventually taken by the Germans at Texel. Finally I got to see the Musée de l'Air's Dewoitine D.520. No 862 is painted as No 277, the usual mount of Adjudant Pierre Le Gloan during the Battle of France in 1940. In total, Le Gloan shot down at least 18 aircraft - four German, seven Italian, and then seven British fighters over Syria while serving the Vichy regime.
