Got a highly memorable ride on this from SEN to RTM - the Captain wanted to give the F/O some practice so he made him take off with his windscreen completely obscured by a clipboard. I recall the church at the end of Southend's 5250ft runway 24 looming up ahead and thinking this was starting to look very scary! Heading out on another hurricane hunting mission, the modifications to this 1957-vintage DC-6 are clearly apparent here. Acquired in 1960 from Trans Caribbean, she was sold to Bellomy-Lawson six months after this shot and modified back to normal configuration. Heading out on another hurricane hunting mission, the modifications to this 1957-vintage DC-6 are clearly apparent here. Acquired in 1960 from Trans Caribbean, she was sold to Bellomy-Lawson six months after this shot and modified back to normal configuration.
