Chevron USA is the only oil company still operating its own fleet of offshore helicopters in the Gulf of Mexico. The maintenance base moved from New Orleans Lakefront to Picayune (KMJD) after Hurricane Katrina. One of its long-time helicopter bases was the Chevron Heliport (8LA1) located on Tidewater Road in Venice, Louisiana at the southern end of Highway 23. The office is 12+ ft above the ground to protect it from hurricane storm surges. An AW139, Bell 429 and two Bell LongRangers were based there in 2015.

Chevron USA established a new offshore helicopter base at Galliano - South Lafourche Leonard Miller Jr. Airport in 2014 to support deepwater oil production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Delivered new to USN on 29 August 1952. Shipped to Japan and was assigned to FASRON 11 (Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron) at Atsugi, Japan. Assigned to VC-61 Detachment E aboard USS Oriskany from October 1953 - February 1954. Transferred to VMJ-1, where it operated out of Pohang, S. Korea and Atsugi, Japan until February 1956. Returned to the U.S., and after a lengthly overhaul ended up at the Naval Air Test Center at NAS Patuxent River, MD. Sent to NAS New Orleans, retired in 1959, and transferred to Baton Rouge. It is still there, but has been somewhat restored.
