"The Flying Dutchman" in what probably is the final resting place for this bird. It has quite some history behind it, also having flown for the DDA back in The Netherlands and the "-DDS" can still be seen above the right cockpit window, as this aircraft used to be the PH-DDS. Right now, the stabilizer is totally shot up, holes everywhere and a bit of a sad sight.

"Doornroosje" getting marshalled into position after a scenic flight on the Hoogvliegersdag 2012. On this day, chronically and terminally ill children are given a day they won't ever forget. They get to fly (a few times), in smaller aircraft (PA28/C172), but also on larger aircraft like this DC-3, which did a couple of group flights. The weather cooperated and all in all and it was great seeing a lot of happy faces, very rewarding.

42-100971 took part in the airborne landing at Sainte-Mère-Eglise on D-Day. Bought by Prince Bernhard in 1946, the aircraft became PH-PBA, the Dutch 'Governemnt Dakota'. From 1960 it served as a calibration aircraft with the Dutch CAA. Preserved in front of the Aviodome at Schiphol when I was a kid, it was restored to flying condition by the Dutch Dakota Association in the late 1990s. Note '2100971', from US serial 42-100971, on the rudder.

During the summer of 2012 one of the engines of PH-DDZ failed and the aircraft was grounded. The financial burden was too great for the Dutch Dakota Association to restore airworthiness and, after almost four years of inactivity, the PH-DDZ was sold to the Aviodrome museum at Lelystad. This venerable old DC-3 is now stored in the restoration hangar.
