About to take off from RAF Lossiemouth's Runway 05, displaying 2 Squadron's black and white triangle bars and, more formally, on its tail the Wake Knot taken from the heraldic crest of No II (AC) Squadron, Royal Air Force.

Delivered to the Royal Air Force on 25 October 1918 it was then sent to No. 1 Aircraft Acceptance Park, Coventry where it received its name 'Paddy Bird from Ceylon'. Dispatched to France, arriving on 11 November 1918. As hostilities had just ceased it was sent back, still crated, and went into store at RAF Tadcaster. It was later transferred to RAF Cardington, from where it was retrieved in 1935 and sent to the Imperial War Museum where it stayed until 1974 and then transferred to Duxford. Apart from another example in the Musee Royal l'Armee, Brussels, it is only one of two original aircraft.

Delivered 9 February 1956. When photographed at this event, it was in service with the CATCS, Shawbury. SOC 17 December 1970, following which it had a number of owners and was registered G-BZRD 27 March 2001, registration cancelled 22 February 2005. Went in due course to the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum 22 October 2008.

Withdrawn from use with 4 squadron in April 1970. She was repainted in 19 squadron colours and put on display. By July 1975 the aircraft was noted on the Gütersloh fire dump. The only Gütersloh Lightning decoys I can find are F1As, arriving in 1974. So this picture probably dates from the 1974/'75 era. Photographer unknown

Was being delivered to Russia on 5th September 1942 when it was shot down by German Bf109s near the Finnish/Russian border. All five crew bailed out safely and became prisoners of war. Remains recovered in 2002 and brought to the museum.

Delivered to the RAF as WD377 in 1951. Damaged beyond repair in a forced landing in Morayshire, Scotland in 1966. Reduced to a "Chippax" cockpit section. Was part of the Millom Aircraft Museum until its closure in 2010. To the museum by 2015.

Wing section for use in the restoration of XS694 stored on top a container. It was fitted to P.1127 XP984 at Brooklands prior to restoration in 2015/17 and was a spare that was used for fuel testing.

Rear fuselage section. Shot down over Belgium and crashed at Bas-Oha, to the West of Huy on the night of 12/13th August 1944. All seven crew were killed. The rear fuselage section was kept by a local farmer and eventually moved to a Dutch museum. It arrived at the museum in 2014.

Nose removed for restoration. Delivered to the USAAF as 44-30861. Registered as N9089Z in 1959. To the UK for filming in 1963. Withdrawn from use at Biggin Hill in 1964. Moved to Southend for preservation in 1967. Moved to Duxford in 1984 after the museum closed then to North Weald in 1987. Stored outside from 1989 and became derelict. Moved to Wycombe Air Park in 2006 and stored in dismantled condition. Preserved at the Wings Museum, Balcombe, West Sussex from 2012.

Started out as a fuselage frame built from new wood and original fittings from three aircraft and displayed in 1972 in the newly opened museum. In early 1983 construction of a complete replica commenced. A replica Renault engine was constructed at RAF Cardington Restoration Centre with an original propeller acquired from a garage in Weston-super-Mare. Final fabric covering and rigging completed at Cardington in 1990-91. Delivered to Hendon in 1992 and installed in the Bomber Hall. Moved to the Grahame White Hangar in April 2012.
