Pictured whilst serving the Lightning Training Flight, based at RAF Binbrook, this Lightning had earlier seen service with 111 and 5 Sqns. Later performed as 11 Sqn's display aircraft and was withdrawn in 1.87 with 3212 hours after a period back at the LTF, being scrapped next year. Also see my 1974 flying shot back in the days when she was still in the classic natural metal finish with 111 Sqn

The A&AEE Britannia graces Northolt's apron on a fine summer's day. She started her working life just down the road with BOAC as G-AOVM in 6.58 and ended it as 9Q-CHY in Zaire where she arrived in 1984. Here she later took the honour of being the world's last operating Brit (apart from 9Q-CJH ex-RAF XM496 now preserved at Kemble, after being flown in during October 1997) till withdrawal in 1991 and eventual scrapping at Kinshasa

The recce version of the Victor was said to be good for altitudes approaching 70,000 feet. From 1965 nine were converted from B.2s with cameras and powerful photoflash gear in the bomb bay and were sometimes referred to as B(SR).2s. Note the large drag-reducing fairings known as Whitecombe Pods or Krucheman Carrots on the wings, which doubled up as useful space for defensive ECM equipment. Served with 543 Sqdn till 1974 when three were again converted (to K.2); this one was scrapped at St Athan 12.91

This is a very famous aircraft which held the world speed record at 727.6 mph in 1953. This has resulted in several other aircraft carrying the same serial, though this aircraft, on loan from the RAF Museum, is the genuine one
