Shortly to depart on delivery to Air Cal/ILFC

After the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 in the USA, Air California began flying to destinations outside of the state of California. This United 737 was leased from January 1980 to April 1981 until other aircraft ordered could be delivered. It's return to United coincided with the first deliveries of their new MD-80s. The aircraft was withdrawn at United in 1992, stored at Tucson, AZ and later broken up.

When AirCal leased this 737 in March 1986 it was already 18 years old, having flown with NAC National Airways Corporation / Air New Zealand as ZK-NAE from September 1968. American Airlines kept the 737 in their fleet when it merged AirCal in July 1987 before returning it to the lessor in 1991. Stored at Phoenix, Avmark Aviation leased the aircraft in September 1992. Re-named Transtar Airlines in January 1993, the company closed it's doors July 31, 1993. Stored, this time in Roswell, NM, the aircraft was sold to West Jet Airlines in 1997 as a source of spare parts and was scrapped in Roswell.

Fairly new to Air Cal when photographed but the tail titles removed already, this GPA Group owned 737 was delivered December 19, 1986. Merged into American Airlines' fleet in 1987, it would become N680AA. Returned to the lessor in 1991, it was placed with Southwest Airlines. Southwest retired it February 2, 2010 with the registration cancelled August 25, 2010 after scrapping.

Delivered new to Wien Air Alaska 20th May 1975 and transferred to AirCal Nov 1985, then merged into American Airlines July 1987. Became C-GNWN with NWT Air 3rd Aug 1989 and transferred to First Air June 1998. Crashed on approach to CYRB (Resolute Bay) 20th Aug 2011

Delivered new to Western Airlines 11th June 1968 , leased to EG&G Mar 1981-Dec 1984 and transferred to AirCal Dec 1984. Merged into American Airlines July 1987
