Central African Airways replaced their Vikings on the Zambezi service from Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia to London, UK with Viscounts in the late 1950s. VP-YNE was one of them. On 9 August 1958 it came to grief on approach to Benghazi in Libya. 36 people died in the accident.

First flown 14 June 1956 and delivered to Central African Airways 1 July after having the distinction of being the first Viscount to visit the USSR 29 Junel. When the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland was dissolved and Malawi and Zambia gained independence, CAA became a holding company and the Viscounts operated with nameplates for the new airlines; Air Malawi, Air Rhodesia, and Zambia Airways.
