Air Spain sticks in my memory for two good reasons, one that they flew Britannias, the other that they had this striking colour scheme. This early DC-8 began life in 1.60 with Eastern as N8601 and was one of six acquired from them by Air Spain from 1.71. After merger talks with Aviaco broke down, the airline ceased operations in 1.75 and this aircraft was scrapped by AJI at Van Nuys in 1977 as N48CA

The second 146 built started off as G-SSHH in 1.82 but is seen here during a three-month lease to Dan-Air, still in the livery of the previous operator Royal West Airlines, which operated her as N801RW between cities in California and Nevada over the previous year. Later became the BAe STA demo aircraft and now flies with National Jet Express as VH-NJV

Not easily disguising her Quebecair ownership, this 737 was leased for summer 1982, reverting to C-GQBH in November that year. Bought by CP Air in 10.86; to Sky Airline in 9.04 and later became CC-CTI, noted in store at SCL late 2008. Shot from the Lowfield Heath emergency gate in the days when that gave a clear view

Paramount Airways made its first flights in 5.87 from a base at Bristol Lulsgate to Malaga and Tenerife. The airline leased two MD83s, with two more added later, being the first in the UK with the type, also operating from Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, and Gatwick. Paramount became insolvent in mid-1989 and was wound up. G-PATA changed hands many times and was stored at Tucson as N305FA of Falcon Air Express in a black livery in 2013

BA's first Chinook, pictured in the days when Gatwick had its own heliport, near the original airport Beehive building (still there today). In 1978 BA was the first to order the Commercial Chinook, for North Sea oil rig support missions. But by 1985 it was decided to sell the six helicopters which had been acquired. G-BJAC became N234CH then C-FHFH but was w/o at Comox, BC on 30.10.97
