This aircraft passes her days in retirement outside the Museum of Flight at BFI. Much better than death by a thousand cuts, a fate which will eventually be suffered by many of her contempories at the DM boneyard.

Pictured vacating rw13R after landing. Earlier I had tried to drive around and see if I could get an angle on the Miami Air 738 in the background. However, there were lots of guys with huge guns, radios etc., standing guard. I thought it probably wasn't a smart idea to take my camera out so gave this one a miss. I think it was a convict flight.

The Model 100 was a civil version of Boeing's F4B-1 with four built. This one was sold to Pratt and Whitney for use as a flying test bed and later used by stunt and airshow pilot Milo Burcham and movie pilot Paul Mantz. Restored to flying condition with this Army P-12 color scheme in 1977, it was donated to the Museum of Flight in 1987.

Initially used for testing, "Clipper America" was delivered to PAA on 12 June 1949, and soon renamed "Clipper Bald Eagle". This airline publicity shot shows a typical crew of eight in front of passengers and freight. Chevron's fuel tankers also get in on the act. The aircraft served the airline until sale in 1960. The second Canadair-built Sabre chase plane owned by Boeing to be registered N8686F, this aircraft is now an exhibit at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. It was still operational when the photo was taken outside the museum. The Sabre had been towed from the flight test department for the benefit of an Australian media party visiting the museum, which at the time comprised only the Red Barn.

The Monomail (two built) was designed as a technology demonstrator for all-metal low winged commercial aircraft. Initially intended for mail operations, but here modified with an enlarged cabin for eight passengers. Lessons from this design led to the twin-engined Model 247 in 1933. Photo obtained from Boeing.
