Lots flocked to see "Berlin Express" flying on the show Sunday. Only to be disappointed about the canopy incident of it cracking whilst flying on Saturday...

My first photo of this fine P-51D Mustang, originally built in 1944, opb USAAF as 44-73877. 1951 9279 for RCAF, 403sqc at Calgary. 1958 sold to the first civil owner as N6320T. April 29th 1968 N167F Finefrock, Oklahoma until damaged September 1st 1969 while taxing at air show in Texas, collided with another Mustang. Rebuilt and rejoined with Finefrock until 1980. September 1980 sold to Scandinavian Historic Flight, and rebuilt at Fort Colllins, Colorado. First post-restoration flight made in 1985. 2001 repainted, still N167F.. This Flogger-B was previously '01' with the Hungarian AF and is now preserved (stored?) at Budaors in these fake USAF markings, which were acquired at some point for a film.

Ex USN 51291

Delivered to the USAAF as 41-8094 in 1942. Sold and registered as N64926 in 1966 then F-AZCK in 1982.

Built as US Navy R6D-1 BuNo 131595 but diverted to USAF as C-118A 51-17645. It was retired to MASDC at Tucson in May 1975 and civilianised as N2901F in June 1976. In April 1984 it landed after dark at the closed Johnstown Airport, PA., left the paved area and became stuck in mud. The police were alerted but when they arrived the crew had disappeared, and the aircraft was found to contain bales of marijuana. It was later re-registered N76AF and was later photographed, (qv), at McAllen Airport, TX., in 1987. Its fate is obscured but the registration was cancelled as "Destroyed" in July 1990.

On display at the exhibition "Reaching for the Sky: The History of Columbus Aviation" at the Columbus Historical Society's gallery at COSI. I'm reasonably confident this aircraft was formerly part of the collection of the Ohio History of Flight Museum at (then) Port Columbus, and had been put into storage there when the museum closed in 2000. Unfortunately I have not been able to determine if it was ever registered, or had a c/n assigned by its builder. After this exhibition, she was returned to the Historical Aircraft Squadron museum, at the nearby Fairfield County Airport in Lancaster.
