A unique exhibit: the naval prototype of the Jaguar. The Jaguar M was set to replace the Etendard IV. Flight testing revealed that the aircraft was underpowered and unresponsive during a deck landing without afterburners, and overpowered with them turned on. The issues were probably curable, but ideally the M needed a bigger wing, and the Jaguar M was cancelled when Dassault promised that its all-French Super Etendard would work out cheaper.

A 'new' Dewoitine D.520 on display. The fuselage is that of c/n 650, which was built in Toulouse for the Vichy French air force in 1942. It was at one time converted to two-seat trainer, but has been restored as a single-seater here at Rochefort. It is painted in the markings of naval fighter squadron AC-2, which received D.520s in 1940 in anticipation of the planned D.790 carrier variant. The unit was sent to French North Africa after the fall of France under Vichy control and saw action against the Allies, despite sporting a Donald Duck badge.

The construction number of this preserved aircraft is questionable - it is reported to be MD-9 by an Air-Britain member. On paper c/n MD-9 is s/n 134705, which was sold as N61911 in 1973 and ended up derelict in Iceland.

To my surprise, I found this Mirage here which presumably landed with a technical issue. Some people who were renovating a building on the right must have had a perfect side-on view of the aircraft, but understandably, they were not sure about letting me photograph the bomber from the windows. Serial 654 and SPA 95 marking confirmed, and code still 3-ID.
