The aircraft was in a design competition with the F-16, to which it lost. The design then lead to the development of the F-18.

This was an experimental design for a STOL replacement for the C130. Two examples were built, this being the second. Whilst production was never instigated the project lead to the development of the much larger C-17 a fact very evident when seen from this angle.

Now here's a sight, a Bulldog equipped with a MATRA rocket launcher ! This was marketed as a Primary Trainer with Multi role flexibility (as it says on the label) including light strike and supply dropping (probably sandwiches or similar). It seems unbelievable today!
